Faversham writer Frances Beaumont talks about A Life Without Hands – John Oliver and Me, her recently published book that combines memoir, biography and love story to tell the extraordinary and moving tale of her relationship with Kent boatman and artist John Oliver.
The story flows through time and two lives, the author's memoir weaving alongside John's biography – a moving portrait of the courage it takes to live freely, pursue a creative life and be a mother, contrasted with John's courage and skills as an artist, chef, and tug skipper, a man who refuses to let the disability he was born with become his defining feature.
